our story
Paul (your host) moved to Margaret River 20 odd years ago from Perth in search of surf and the tranquility of the Australian bush. Fast forward most of those years and Paul had travelled a bit of the world, built a successful architectural practice and house (check it out here) and bought up his two children with reasonable success. But the kids eventually grew up and moved out and his beloved Kelpie cross Pepper had passed on….
Looking for new direction he fell in love with a block of land on the edge of Margaret River township that had just the right ingredients to keep him happy : an outlook onto redgum and karri forest, a wonderful neighbourhood community, direct access to walking and mountain bike trails out the front door and closer proximity to Margaret River’s legendary surf. So, he went about designing two space and energy efficient houses with the idea to live in one and offering short stays in the other - Cabin Honeyeater was sort of born. The cabin however, lacked a certain something … the warmth of a woman’s touch (as did Paul).
Thats where Rebecca comes into the picture (again!). Rebecca and Paul had been high school sweethearts many (many) years ago and had spent their time together camping around the West Australian bush out of Paul’s old landcruiser, when not studying at university or staring into each other eyes. Life moved on however and after 5 years of first love bliss they both went their separate ways on the journey of life.
Fast forward, once more and a chance message saw the two reconnect again after nearly 40 years apart and the fire was rekindled.
Well what does this have to do with cabin honeyeater? you may well ask. Well….Among other things, Rebecca has been able to bring that much needed warmth and a feeling of peacefulness to the cabin that had previously eluded Paul and together, they have successfully fashioned an architecturally unique cabin imbued with a sense of calm and serenity.
Over life’s journey Rebecca and Paul have come to understand what truly matters. Their deep love and respect for nature is woven into every aspect of cabin honeyeater creating a space that reflects their values of authenticity, simplicity and connection.
